Islam at a Glance

Islam means “submission” in Arabic, implying “complete submission and obedience to Allah”. Followers of Islam are known as Muslims, literally, one who is submitting or more importantly one who is surrendering to Allah. Islam is not just a religion as we know it, but a way of life. In some sense how we should lead our lives according to the Will of Allah.

The message of Islam is the same message sent down to all the Prophets and Messengers, Adam, Noah, Ibrahim (Abraham), Ishaq (Isaac), Yakub (Jacob), Ishmail, Musa (Moses), Isa (Jesus) and others (peace upon them all). So the message of Islam is not a new concept, but has been around since the dawn of time.

Islam began as we know it today some 1400 years ago in Saudi Arabia and is now the second largest religion in the world. As one of the world’s leading religions, Islam has about 1.2 billion followers and growing. The holiest places for the Islamic faith are the cities of Makkah and Madinah (which are in Saudi Arabia)
